His hands had eyes

Magic eyes. That was Jarvis at the Fillmore last night. Those magic eyes could tell names of all the people. That's what he said. The show opened with Angela. Wearing his very big glasses, he danced, he joked, he got an invitation to a wedding from Stephanie and Gene in the audience that is tentatively scheduled for October 10, 2010. With songs such as Don't let him waste your time, Homewrecker! (By the way, that's the only song with a saxophone in it. Hence, sex. Get it?) Further Complications, Fat Children, he suggested maybe he wouldn't be a very good wedding singer.

He shared his chocolates, wine, beer. He was personal, engaged, funny. He liked the thick fog, because it felt like home he said. He performed with his heart.

I waited for him to sing a pulp song, maybe Common People or Babies or Do you remember the First Time or Disco 2000 or anything. Disappointingly, he didn't, just like last year. I think he has moved on. Nonetheless, it was a great show that I will remember for a long time.

Monsters of Folk @ the Fox October 17

Monsters of Folk consists of Mike Mogis, Conor Oberst, M. Ward, Yim Yames. Tickets go on sale Aug 2 at 10am. According to Rolling Stone:
When Jim James, M. Ward, Conor Oberst and Mike Mogis hit the road together in 2004 under the banner “An Evening With: Bright Eyes, Jim James and M. Ward,” insiders referred to the tour as “Monsters of Folk.” The name stuck, and now the quartet have announced an official release under the moniker: their self-titled album is due September 22nd.

The My Morning Jacket, She & Him and Bright Eyes members carved out time in Malibu and Omaha studios and spent two years working sessions into their already packed schedules; Mogis produced the album. The band’s reps promise an LP of road-worn, sun-soaked fables with brilliant choruses and some electronic elements.

A Sad Day For Bright Eyes Fans

Just read this from The Bright Eyes Facebook update:
"It does feel like it needs to stop at some point. I'd like to clean it up, lock the door, say goodbye." That's what Conor Oberst told Rolling Stone last month, talking about his musical moniker Bright Eyes.
Now, Oberst's hometown paper, The Omaha World-Herald, reports that Oberst plans to retire the Bright Eyes name after one more album.
Robb Nansel, the president of Bright Eyes' label, Saddle Creek, told the World-Herald, "I think he feels like Bright Eyes has a certain association, for better or worse. I think he's trying to distance himself a little bit from what that means to people." Nansel said that Oberst plans to record the album during the first half of next year, with a projected fall 2010 release date. So get those "The Calendar Hung Itself" live requests in ASAP.
Of course, Oberst is keeping busy no matter what name he chooses to go by. For the remainder of this year, he'll devote his time to Monsters of Folk, his supergroup with M. Ward, Jim James, and Mike Mogis. That group's debut album is out September 22 via Shangri-La in North America, Rough Trade in Europe, Spunk in Australia, and P-Vine in Japan. You can download a track from the record called "Say Please" at the Monsters of Folk website. He's also on the road with his Mystic Valley Band right now.

It's too bad. I really like the Bright Eyes. Not so much like his new project Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band.
