The price of the ticket
There is great article in the New Yorker Aug 10&17 issue, titled "The price of the ticket" by John Seabrook. Did you know that Ticketmaster was founded by two grad student from Arizona State University in 1976 who were frustrated that they couldn't get tickets to their favorite shows? Some rich guy bought it from them in 1982 for merely $4 million dollars? Now with the pending merger of Ticketmaster and Live Nation, the world's largest ticket seller and the world's largest management company will combine with the world's largest concert promoter and the world's largest venue operator and become one. Monopoly or fair competition? You decide. Not only that, Ticketmaster owns ticketsnow.com which is a scalping site. If you want to go to a show, you lose. Click here if you want to read the whole article. Email me for access if necessary.
